Being given the opportunity to photograph several of the City of Palm Desert’s Affordable Housing Communities was truly an honor. As someone who grew up in Palm Desert and benefited from affordable housing myself, this project was deeply personal.

The goal behind these photos was to highlight the City’s ongoing support for affordable housing. As the City explains, the program is designed to ease the burden of high monthly rents for low- to moderate-income families and seniors. With a growing number of working families in need, Palm Desert continues to lead efforts in developing new properties and creating opportunities for residents to thrive.

My approach was to capture images that are honest, simple, and clean—photos that reflect the essence of living in Palm Desert, surrounded by the natural beauty of the desert landscape. I also aimed to convey a sense of warmth and possibility, presenting each community in a way that feels inviting, even when some of the properties may show their age.

Collaborating on this project was an exciting and rewarding experience. It reaffirmed the importance of affordable housing, not only for the well-being of our community but also for the continued growth and stability of our local economy.
